Civil Justice Clinic Ribbon-Cutting - Wednesday, November 12, 2014
Duke Law alums, staff and faculty gathered for a reception celebrating the launch of the new Duke Law Civil Justice Clinic, a unique partnership between Duke Law School and Legal Aid of North Carolina offering students an opportunity to hone practical litigation skills while addressing the need for civil representation among low-income citizens. This event was held at the Durham County Courthouse. The event started at 4:30 p.m. and light refreshments were served.
Robert Rauschenberg: Legal Connections - October 10, 2014
Leadership weekend attendees were invited for a special evening at the Nasher Museum, including a discussion that complemented the ground-breaking exhibit, “Rauschenberg: Collecting and Connecting” by examining Rauschenberg’s legacy to the law. Robert Rauschenberg united everyday objects and images into original works of art, juxtaposing what he found and leaving an influential and still-controversial body of work. The discussion was moderated by Deborah DeMott, the David F. Cavers Professor at the law school and the originator of its course on Art Law. She was joined by Richard L. Schmalbeck, the Simpson Thacher & Bartlett Professor and a prominent scholar of tax law. Food and beverage were provided. The event took place at 7:00 p.m.

An Evening with President Brodhead - August 28, 2014
Duke University President Richard Brodhead and other campus leaders gathered for a special Duke event at the Raleigh Convention Center. This event took place at 6:30pm. The event included a cocktail supper reception and remarks by President Brodhead, followed by dessert and coffee. Duke staff and fellow alumni and friends mingled as they strolled around the special exhibit at the Convention Center, featuring information and memorabilia from many areas of Duke.

Alumni, friends, and family volunteered with Lakewood Elementary School and DURO from 1:30pm - 4:00pm to complete beautification projects around the school. Alumni in the area attended a book presentation with Duke Law School graduate and Washington D.C. attorney Rawn James L'01. The disscusion focused on The Double V which explores the history of the struggle for equality in the military and how this struggle gave rise to and supported the fight for equality in civilian society. This two day conference focused on current developments in the estate and gift tax field, estate planning techniques, and offered discussions and solutions to estate planning problems.
