The Congress: Government, Business and the Global Economy
This course will study the evolving relationship between business and government in the United States and around the globe. The first half of the course will focus on the United States Congress. How does congress make decisions on issues, especially those that affect business? What are the internal institutional forces that shape decision making? How are decisions by members of congress influenced by external pressures such as the media, interest groups, elections, other branches of government and public perceptions? How have these influences evolved over time? The course will then study how these influences impact on the executive branch and regulatory agencies. The final section of the class delves into the new relationships developing in the global economy. How will the historic interaction between corporations and nation states change and evolve in the new global economy? This course is cross-registered with the Fuqua School of Business, and enrollment will be split as evenly between law and business students as possible. Total class size is 40.
