Over the past 30 years, Mr. Miller (Duke Law, '75) has worked in a law firm, as a journalist, at policy think tanks, and within governmental agencies. He will be joining us for lunch to provide insight into what motivated him to leave a law firm and pursue a less traditional career path. Mr. Miller began his career working as an associate at the law firm, Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy. After two years, he left the firm and became a journalist for nine years. He then continued his career at policy think tanks, beginning as a senior policy analyst at Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), progressing to Program Director at CEI, and next moving to Director of Health Policy Studies at Cato Institute. Mr. Miller then became Senior Health Economist for the Joint Economic Committee in the U.S. Congress from 2003-2006. Currently, he is acting both as a Resident Fellow in the policy think tank, AEI, and as a member of the National Advisory Council for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (a sub-agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services). Mr. Miller will be happy to answer any questions you have about life as a lawyer in the public policy arena. For more information, contact Maggie Pishko at careercenter@law.duke.edu.
