November 18, 2010 • 9:30 AM • Law School 3041

Federal district or circuit judges, who are appointed by the Chief Justice of the United States, comprise the
seven member Panel. Under 28 U.S.C. § 1407, the Panel (1) determines whether civil actions pending in different federal districts involve one or more common questions of fact such that the actions should be transferred to one federal district for coordinated or consolidated pretrial proceedings; and (2) selects the federal district and judge to conduct these centralized proceedings. Currently, the Panel is
scheduled to hear argument in seven MDL dockets. For more information on the panel and the matters set for this hearing session, visit http://www.jpml.uscourts.gov/. Feel free to contact the Events Office at events@law.duke.edu with any questions.
