Assistant Dean, Alumni & Development

As Assistant Dean for Alumni & Development, Kate manages the Law School's principal and planned giving. She works closely with the Dean and the Associate Dean for Alumni & Development to plan and implement the Law School's fundraising initiatives. In addition, she facilitates the volunteer Law Alumni Association Board of Directors.

A graduate of Duke University and the University of Virginia School of Law, Kate worked for several years for two major research universities, and also practiced estate planning and tax exempt organizations law, before joining the Law School in December 2004. She lives in Durham with her husband, Phil Buchanan, who serves as Duke's Assistant Vice President for Gift Planning, and her three young sons -- Blake, Holden and Graham.
