Our faculty and students participated in North Carolina Bar Foundation’s (@ncbforg) 17th Annual 4ALL Statewide Service Day. The 4ALL event is one of the North Carolina bar’s largest and most popular pro bono events. At the event, students screened callers, identified the legal issue/practice area, and then routed callers to the appropriate faculty and attorneys to provide legal aid and resources. NCBF Senior Director Kim Bart Mullikin led the planning and coordination of the 4ALL-Lawyers on Call program for the NCBF and North Carolina Bar Association (@ncbaorg). “4ALL-Lawyers on Call has the dual goal of engaging attorneys, paralegals, and law students in pro bono service to individuals across the state of North Carolina and increasing access to justice for people who might not otherwise have the resources or ability to connect with an attorney to ask basic legal questions,” said Mullikin. Raashi Shastry '25, one of the student volunteers at the event, said, “Our interactions with the callers are brief, so it has helped me to think quickly on my feet and hone in on my problem-solving skills. It has been very rewarding to utilize our legal knowledge in a practical setting.” Alexandra Elphick LLM '24 touched on the highlight of the event and the significance of helping others. “For many of the callers, this was their only access to legal assistance, and therefore, it was very fulfilling playing a small part in increasing access to justice,” Elphick said. “As law students we are so privileged to have a robust understanding of our legal rights, and this is something we should not take for granted.” To learn more about NBCF’s Lawyers on Call program, visit the link in our bio!
