As a practicing lawyer, your conduct is regulated by a state bar and its code of professional conduct. The Law School Honor Code will be your first introduction to these expectations and will guide your conduct for the next three years. Dean Belk will help you explore this topic. -
Build Relationships: "Welcome to North Carolina" Lunch

Enjoy a North Carolina barbecue lunch from Q-Shack as you get to know your fellow summer starters in the Star Commons. -
Campus Tour or Academic Technologies Workshop
1:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. · Room 4047
Groups 1 and 2 start with a campus tour followed by a workshop led by Academic Technologies; Groups 3 and 4 will attend the workshop followed by the tour.
Tours will leave from Star Commons and will include a visit to the campus bookstore and the DukeCard office. Please bring an ID and payment. The Academic Technologies Workshop will meet in Room 4047; they will assist you with to installing the software you will need at Duke Law and introduce you to library services.

Engage Intellectually: Class Preparation and Case Briefing

Being prepared for a law school class may be very different from the kind of daily academic preparation you are accustomed to. This session, lead by Professor Doriane Coleman and Assistant Director of Legal Writing and Senior Lecturing Fellow Jeremy Mullem, is designed to make your faculty's expectations clear, and to provide instruction on how to meet those expectations so that you can be most successful from the beginning.

Enjoy lunch with Kim Bart, Assistant Dean for Public Interest and Pro Bono Programs. Dean Bart will describe opportunities for you to get involved with the Duke Law Pro Bono Project, the Externship Program, and Duke in DC. She also will briefly introduce some additional programs, including summer job-seeking in government or public interest, summer funding, post-grad fellowships and public interest loan forgiveness.
