Education Law

This course will introduce students to the law and policy relating to public education (K-12) in the United States. It will examine the authority of the state to compel school attendance, regulate the content of the curriculum and control the behavior of students and their teachers. Issues of equal educational opportunity will be covered, including school desegregation, school financing, and special education for the handicapped. Students will be exposed to the interplay of local, state and federal law in the governance of public schools.
