Science and Society

The Duke Initiative for Science & Society, directed by Law School professor Nita Farahany, examines broad-ranging questions about the integral role of science in social institutions and cultures. The JD/MA in Bioethics and Science Policy uses this initiative to prepare law students for careers at the intersection of law, science, and technology, from opportunities in government to positions at law firms, including in highly specialized fields such as genomics, neuroscience, public health, and clinical research.

Duke Margols Center for Health Policy

The Duke Margolis Center for Health Policy seeks to improve health and the value of health care through practical, innovative, and evidence-based policy solutions. Duke Law students interested in health policy and management can apply to the Margolis Scholars program, which provides an interdisciplinary perspective on key health policy and management issues as well as relevant practical and research opportunities to support professional development.

    Edgar P. and Elizabeth C. Bartlett Professor of Law, Professor of Business Administration

    Richman’s primary research interests include the economics of contracting, new institutional economics, antitrust, and healthcare policy. His work has been published in the Columbia Law Review, the University of Pennsylvania Law ReviewLaw and Social Inquiry, the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and Health Affairs.
