Duke Alums Engage - April 30, 2016
This year’s Duke Alums Engage Day of Service was at City of Refuge. The City of Refuge is committed to making real, transformative change in a neighborhood beset by poverty. With programs ranging from providing a safe home and reliable health care to expectant teen mothers to job training for those seeking employment, City of Refuge's programs have received acclaim from The Brookings Institution and funding from The Chick-fil-a Foundation. Impact Investing Program with Law alum Terry Tucker MBA'98, JD'04 - December 2, 2015
This event hosted networking and a discussion on social entrepreneurship featuring Duke Law alum, Terry Tucker MBA'98, JD'04. Duke's Fuqua School of Business and the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) hosted the panel to discuss the latest trends in social innovation and the great things happening in Atlanta. In addition, participants were given the optionon to tour the City of Refuge facilities, Atlanta's own social venture focused on bringing "light, hope and transformation to Atlanta" through comprehensive onsite services spanning multiple areas of need - from food, clothing and shelter to job training, placement, housing, healthcare and education.

Duke Forward Atlanta - October 8, 2015
Duke Forward returned to Atlanta with Ideas That Move the World Forward, a new program featuring short, inspiring talks by some of Duke's most innovative thinkers whose ideas are forging real change both locally and globally. President Richard H. Brodhead shared the vision for Duke's future. Following the program, there was the opportunity to network with Duke alumni, parents, and friends during a dinner reception.

Medshare is an innovative nonprofit that bridges the gap between surplus and need, to improve healthcare and the environment through the efficient recovery and redistribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment to those most in need. Alumni in the area attended the third event for "Neil Asks," a lecture series honoring the legacy L. Neil Williams, Jr. The topic includes, "What is the role of lawyers, beyond service to their clients?" The conversation was focused on leadership and innovation and featured Judge Beverly B. Martin, Ben F. Johnson III, and Richard R. Hays. The event took place from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at Alston & Bird LLP.

Duke Alums Engage Day of Service - May 19, 2012
Law alums in Atlanta experienced a day of service with the Southeastern Horticultural Society. This day of service was part of the Duke Alums Engage program that took the experience of volunteering to a more meaningful level. Duke alums learned the principles of civic engagement and service-learning and then put them into practice through a group project tailored to the needs of the community. Alums had an opportunity to contemplate and evaluate the experience, as a group and individually.
