DukeDC was proud to partner with DC Greens for our annual Duke Alums Engage project this year. We worked at the K Street Farms. All levels of gardening ability and ages were encouraged to attend (including children). The K Street Farm is a ¾ acre farm located adjacent to the Walker Jones Education Campus, a Pre-K through 8th grade DC Public School. This educational farm is managed and maintained by DC Greens as a unique resource for Walker Jones teachers, students, and families, and the surrounding community. Sponsored by DAA.
Duke DC : Reflections on the Supreme Court - May 17, 2016
Alumni and friends gathered at Venable, for a lively discussion about the inside story of how the Court operates, ways in which Justice Scalia’s passing and the 2016 election could impact the Court, and the significance of the major cases in which the Court will issue opinions later this year. Fighting Environmental Crimes - February 3, 2016
Duke Law School and Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment, with Justice Department prosecutors Patrick M. Duggan J.D./M.A.’10 and Christopher L. Hale J.D./M.E.M’00 invited alumni, students and friends to a special panel discussion. Guests heard the story of the recent landmark Lumber Liquidators case marking the first felony conviction related to the import of illegal timber into the United States. Further, guests also learned about the paths that Patrick and Chris have taken to their current roles in the Justice Department’s Environmental Crimes Section of the Environment and Natural Resources Division. Moderated by Stephen E. Roady J.D.’76, Senior Staff Attorney, Earthjustice, and Senior Lecturing Fellow, Duke Law.

Alumni and friends celebrated the ABA Criminal Justice Section award winners, including our own Professor James Coleman, who received the Raeder-Taslitz Award. This award is given to a law professor whose excellence in scholarship, teaching or community service has made a significant contribution to promoting public understanding of criminal justice, justice and fairness in the criminal justice system, or best practices on the part of lawyers and judges.
