Law Alumni Association Board of Directors
Every alumnus/a of the Law School is a member of the Law Alumni Association (LAA). The LAA Board of Directors, its governing body, is working to build a worldwide Duke Law network for alumni and students.
To the Duke Law Alumni Community -
I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve as President of the Duke Law Alumni Association Board this year.
My mother’s family is originally from Durham and for many of them, Duke felt like an unattainable place. On my first day on campus, I vividly recall how nervous I was to enter the hallowed halls of the law school and the uncertainty I felt regarding whether I had what it took to succeed in a place like Duke.
I am happy that I didn’t cower to my fears because what I found was a rich and vibrant community that challenged me and encouraged me to be my best. I was often overwhelmed by the kindness and grace that my professors, staff, and fellow students extended to me. And in the approximately 10 years since I graduated, I have continued to be nourished by those memories and ongoing relationships.
I come to this role with gratitude for the impact that Duke has had on my personal and professional life, and to do my part to ensure that it continues to positively transform the lives of students and alumni. I hope that at the end of my term, you all are more connected to Duke Law School and with one another, and that you are inspired to more meaningfully engage with the current student body.
I look forward to working with you all to achieve those goals. May we work together to strengthen and enrich this incredible community together.
With gratitude,
DeAnna E. Evans
