Global Leaders Scholarship Program

The Global Leaders Scholarship program at Duke Law School provides one full-tuition scholarship each year to a Chinese national who has been accepted for study in the LLM degree program. 

The scholarship is awarded annually to the Chinese applicant who demonstrates the highest level of academic achievement, a record of and capacity for leadership, and a commitment to the use of law in addressing the economic, social and ethical challenges China faces.

Applicants should be Chinese nationals who are or will be university graduates at the time of enrollment at Duke Law School. Applicants must apply for the Master of Laws for international law graduates (LLM) program. Scholarship applicants must complete all of the application requirements for the LLM degree as well the additional application materials for the Global Leaders Scholarship. The scholarship will pay full tuition for the LLM degree program. (Scholarship recipients must pay their own expenses for room, board, books, supplies, transportation, etc.)

All application materials for the scholarship are due by the LLM application deadline of February 1. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

Application Instructions

To apply for the scholarship, you must complete all application requirements for the LLM degree program as well as additional requirements for the scholarship.

1. Intent to Apply Form

All scholarship applicants must complete the Global Leaders Scholarship application form and send it to Duke Law School’s International Studies Office via email to international@law.duke.edu or via fax to 1-919-681-6550. 

2. Application

Assemble your application materials and apply to the LLM program either via LSAC (Law School Admission Council) or in hard copy format sent directly to the International Studies Office. Please see Application Information for complete information and instructions.

3. Global Leaders Scholarship Essay

In addition, you must submit an essay explaining why you should be considered for the scholarship. Please submit this essay with your application using the “Scholarship Request Ltr” attachment in the LSAC application process, or in hard copy format if you are submitting your application materials directly to the International Studies office.

Important Dates to Consider

  • Scholarship Application Deadline: All scholarship application materials must be received by Duke Law School on or before FEBRUARY 1. Please note that the LSAC’s processing of letters and transcripts may take several weeks, so these materials must be submitted well in advance of the deadline.
  • TOEFL Exam Score: It is recommended that you register for the TOEFL exam several weeks before you intend to take it in order to reserve a seat, and that you allow a minimum of six weeks for your score to be transmitted to Duke Law School. This means you should try to take the exam no later than December.
