Careers in International Law: Chinese Investments in the U.S., challenges and opportunities, a conversation with Jeff Zhang '05

May 10, 2018 • 12:30 PM • Law School 4055

Please join Jinsong "Jeff" Zhang '05, partner in the New York office of King & Wood Mallesons, the largest global law firm headquartered outside of the U.S. or E.U, for a conversation about his work advising on M&A transactions involving China investments into the United States. Mr. Zhang will specifically focus on the review process of the Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS), which governs corporate transactions that could result in the control of a U.S. business by a foreign person or entity. By examining two recent cases blocked by CFIUS or President Trump, i.e., BroadCom's attempted acquisition of Qualcomm, and the attempted acquisition of Lattice Semiconductor Corp by Canyon Bridge, a China-backed buyout fund, Mr. Zhang will highlight recent trends in CFIUS review process against the backdrop of the brewing "trade war" between the two countries. More broadly, Mr. Zhang will discuss his work and career and offer advice to students interested in legal work involving U.S. and Chinese legal markets. Lunch will be served.
