Is it Time to End Qualified Immunity?
March 06, 2023 • 12:30 PM • Law School 4047
For the past few years scholars have engaged in an ongoing debate about the continued utility of qualified immunity. While the doctrine was originally meant to empower police officers to protect communities, many today see it as a shield for officers commit misconduct. Many others advocate abandoning the doctrine altogether. To discuss the arguments in favor and against qualified immunity, join us for a discussion with Anya Bidwell of the Institute for Justice and Duke Law Professor Brandon Garrett. Lunch will be provided. Sponsored by the Federalist Society and the Duke Law Wilson Center for Science and Justice. For more information, please contact Tom Fogarty at tmf33@duke.edu.
