Thomas W. Giegerich is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and serves as head of the tax practice for the firm’s New York office. He advises domestic and international clients regarding a wide range of corporate tax planning, transactional and controversy matters arising in a broad variety of contexts, including acquisitions and divestitures, corporate restructurings, domestic and cross-border partnerships and joint ventures, distribution and licensing arrangements, tax treaties and transfer pricing. He has extensive experience advising on the specialized tax issues faced by multinationals, and has worked on numerous projects involving multi-jurisdictional tax issues. Prior to joining McDermott Will & Emery in 2006, Giegerich was a partner at Dewey Ballantine LLP.
Giegerich received his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from Fordham University, his J.D. with distinction from Duke University School of Law, where he served as a member of the editorial board of the Duke Law Journal, and his Ll.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.
Giegerich has served on the Board of Visitors of Duke Law School since 2011 and is a past president of the Duke Law Alumni Association. He is a member of the Tax Sections of the American Bar Association and New York State Bar Association and the New York City Tax Club.
