Another Hurdle to Marriage Equality?: A Discussion with Mayor Kleinschmidt of Chapel Hill on North Carolina's Religious Exemption Bill

September 08, 2015 • 12:30 PM • Law School 3041

Please join the American Constitution Society for a discussion between Professor Joseph Blocher and Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt of Chapel Hill, the town's first openly-gay mayor and a talented lawyer who has dedicated his life to public service. The conversation will first cover the Mayor's prior public interest work, including his contributions as a death penalty lawyer, and culminate in a discussion concerning North Carolina's "religious freedom" bill, which allows public officials to refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples based upon a "sincerely held religious objection." Lunch will be provided. Co-sponsored by the American Constitution Society and OUTLaw. Funded by DBA. For more information, please contact Christina O'Tousa at christina.otousa@duke.edu.
