The Big Short: Viewing and Panel Discussion

October 06, 2016 • 5:15 PM • Law School 3041

Please join us for a screening of the 2015 film The Big Short. The film is based on Michael Lewis' 2010 book of the same name, and tells the story of the 2007-2008 financial crisis from the perspective of four traders who predict the credit and housing bubble collapse. The film explores a number of issues, including: complex securitizations, a lack of regulation, and the nature of financial fraud. These issues will be discussed in depth immediately after the film in a panel discussion featuring professors Samuel Buell, Steven Schwarcz, and Lawrence Baxter. Food and refreshments will be available. Sponsored by the Global Financial Markets Center. For more information, please contact Lee Reiners at lee.reiners@duke.edu.
