Everything You Wanted to Know about In-House Practice

Red Hat, the world's leading provider of open source solutions, invites students to a panel discussion on in-house careers. The panel will be represented by five in-house practitioners from various groups inside Red Hat's legal department (IP litigation, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, privacy and security), all of whom previously practiced law at private firms and/or for the government. While we intend this to be a conversation with plenty of opportunity for Q&A, the panel will come prepared to discuss topics such as: your typical day as an in-house attorney, the primary differences between your experience in-house and in your firm, government practice, some of the paths to in-house practice and advice for those who'd like to pursue this career path, the skills you rely on and draw from most in your in-house position, the challenges you face in your job, what you wish someone had told you before you became a lawyer - and then again before making the leap to in-house practice. Sponsored by the Law and Entrepreneurship Society. For more information, please contact Kaitlyn Fulcher at kaitlyn.fulcher@duke.edu.
