Faith, Politics, and the Law, Feb. 27

Jim Towey, president of Saint Vincent College and former head of the White House Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives will speak at Duke Law School on Tuesday, Feb. 27. His talk, entitled “Faith, Politics and the Law” will get underway at 12:15 p.m. in room 3043. This event, which is co-sponsored by the Duke Journal of Constitutional Law & Public Policy and the Program in Public Law, is free and open to the public.

Duke Law School is located at the corner of Science Drive and Towerview Road on Duke’s West Campus. Parking is available at the Bryan Center.

Towey led the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives from 2002 to 2006, also advising the president on church-state issues. Prior to his appointment, Towey spent ten years as a senior advisor to Senator Mark Hatfield (R-OR) and former Florida Governor Lawton Chiles, serving the latter as secretary of Florida’s Health and Social Services Agency. Towey also served as legal counsel to Mother Teresa for 12 years.
