Duke Law Only Fellowship Applications Distributed
On Tuesday at 12:15 in Room 4049 (Moot Courtroom), we will distribute applications for many of the fellowships available only to Duke Law students, and we will have presentations explaining the various fellowships. (No lunch provided. Only the chance for the summer job of your dreams!) These fellowships are for 1Ls and 2Ls to do public interest work during the summer of 2007.
Those applications being distributed are:
Duke Law endowed fellowships -- Burdman, Steckley-Weitzel and Carroll-Simon -- 5 grants of $4300 each to work at least 10 weeks at eligible organizations anywhere in the world
IOLTA -- 5 grants of $3000 each to work at least 10 weeks at eligible organizations in North Carolina
International Development -- we have a total of $1500 this year to be used as supplemental travel grants to one or more applicants working in developing countries
PILF -- the student-run group, PILF, will distribute its applications as well. These fellowships can be pro rated for those working less than a full summer. The amount distributed will be announced once the fund raising is completed for the year. Fellowships are for PILF members. See Steven Schindler and Julia Kohen with questions or to join PILF before it's too late!
All applications listed above are due at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 23, 2007.
Also at the lunch program, we will have representatives explaining each of the programs above as well as the Stanback Fellowship program (providing around 10 grants of $4500 to work at environmental law organizations), and the Howrey Fellowship (one fellowship usually provided by the Howrey law firm, but not yet definite for 2007).
We will do an overview of what is available, and the interrelationship of them, before the whole group, and then have break-out groups where you can get more specific assistance on the fellowship program of most interest to you.
Carol Spruill will have a breakout for those who intend to apply for the IOLTA fellowship and will share what she knows about the NC placements on the list approved by IOLTA.
PILF will be there to explain how its fellowship program (the largest) relates to all the others and to talk about the need to sign up and volunteer, the gala coming up, when to apply, criteria, distribution, thank you grants, etc.
Glenda Lee is coming from the Nicholas School to talk about the Stanback Fellowships.
Jennifer Maher is available to talk with you about the international public interest job search.
While the rest of us have focused on "Duke Only" fellowships, Tia Barnes will tell you about other fellowship programs -- paying or otherwise. She will give an overview in the main session, then meet with students interested in hearing more detail about these opportunities.
