The project was launched by the congregation of Durham’s First Presbyterian Church, of which Everett was a lifelong member, but the Duke Law community will play an important role in its completion. Clinical Professor Theresa Newman '88 and Abby Faulkner Jones ’11 are recruiting students, faculty, staff, and alumni to fill eight “Duke Law shifts” during the construction.
“We hope the various groups from our community will enjoy getting to know one another better while helping the building rise,” said Newman. With two stories and four bedrooms needed for a family of four — Ms. Nakitta Jones and her three children — it will take “many hands” to meet the January 2011 deadline for completion, she added.
Duke Law has adopted Saturday morning and afternoon shifts on the following dates: Oct. 23; Nov. 13; Dec. 11; and Jan. 15.
