North Carolina Bar Association's Minorities in the Profession 2012 1L Summer Associate Program

Apply now for the 1L Summer Associate Program (“SAP”) organized by the North Carolina Bar Association’s Minorities in the Profession Committee. SAP is “designed to provide corporate legal departments and major law firms in North Carolina with an inside track on recruiting some of North Carolina’s brightest and most talented law students of color.” Employers participating in recent years have included Womble Carlyle, Smith Anderson, Progress Energy, Duke Energy and Fresh Market. Applicants are required to submit a resume, a writing sample that consists of a memorandum of law, a statement as to how the student can further diversity of the North Carolina State Bar, and a transcript of first-semester grades, upon availability but no later than February 1st. Please submit your application materials to Jabrina Robinson at jabrina.robinson@law.duke.edu by January 19, 2012. Applicants will be interviewed by a committee of law school representatives the week of January 23, 2012 to determine which students will be nominated to continue in the interview process for participation in the program. Applications shall be reviewed upon criteria such as academic credentials, undergraduate work, and extracurricular activities. Transcripts must be received by our office no later than noon on February 1, 2012. The committee must submit student nominated to continue in the interview process to the North Carolina Bar Association’s Minorities in the Profession Committee by February 3, 2012. On February 17, 2012, hiring representatives from the participating SAP employers will conduct secondary interviews of nominated students at the office of K+L Gates LLP in Morrisville, NC. Based on these interviews, students selected to participate in the 2012 SAP will be notified by February 20, 2012.
