Duke Law alumni in the news recently for their professional moves, promotions, and honors

Jacob Adrian ’16 has been elected partner at Nelson Mullins. Adrian is based in Atlanta and practices in the areas of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity and venture capital.

Joe Alexander ’93 has joined Latham & Watkins as an M&A and private equity partner in New York from DLA Piper, where he was most recently adviser to the chair and was previously its vice chair in charge of transactions. A private equity specialist, Alexander represents financial and strategic investors, including private equity firms and public corporations, in mergers and acquisitions and related financing matters across numerous industries.

Abraham “Abe” Benavides ’14 was promoted to partner at McCall Parkhurst & Horton. Based in Dallas, Benavides has served as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, and underwriters' counsel in debt financings involving non-profit senior living providers, non-profit and governmental hospitals, tollway authorities, cities, universities, and airports. He joined McCall as an associate in 2017.

Rodney Bullard ’01, who served as the head of the Chick-Fil-A Foundation for 12 years, is leaving the organization to start his own nonprofit focused on economic mobility. Bullard was the foundation’s executive director and vice president of social responsibility. The new nonprofit will provide educational scholarships and connect entrepreneurs with their local communities.

Judge Bernice Donald MJS ’18 has joined the national dispute resolution team at Resolute Systems after retiring in January from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, where she had served since her Senate confirmation on September 6, 2011. Prior to that, Donald served on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee for 15 years. Donald received the Sandra Day O’Connor award from The National Judicial College in 2022.

Vicente Fernández LLM ’22, a visiting attorney at Shearman & Sterling in New York, contributed to the Latin Lawyer's Guide on Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG). He was part of a team of attorneys from the firm who authored Chapter 1, "Status and Pitfalls of ESG Standard," which examines governmental, consumer, and investor demands for standardizing ESG reporting in Latin America.

 

Rebecca Goldberg '11 was promoted to senior counsel at Berchem Moses. She is a labor and employment attorney representing management in the firm's Milford, Connecticut, office.

Zachary Kaplan '21 is serving as the first Walter E. Dellinger III Memorial Fellow in the Attorney General's General Counsel's Office of the North Carolina Department of Justice. AG Josh Stein announced in May that the DOJ fellowship program would be named to honor Douglas B. Maggs Professor Emeritus Walter Dellinger, who died in February 2022. Kaplan most recently clerked for Justice Robin E. Hudson on the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Alejandro A. Sánchez Mújica LLM ’07 has been appointed partner at Holland & Knight. A member of the firm’s business section in Monterrey, Mexico, he focuses on representing national and international companies in domestic and cross-border transactions.

Justin Yedor '12 has been promoted to partner at BakerHostetler. Based in Los Angeles, Yedor is a member of the firm’s Digital Assets and Data Management Practice Group, providing advice and strategies for compliance with privacy requirements facing businesses in the retail, consumer services, entertainment, communications, financial and manufacturing sectors. He holds the CIPP/US credential as a certified information privacy professional. 

Henry Yin '10 has joined Loeb & Loeb as corporate partner and chair of Asia M&A and Technology Transactions. Based in the firm’s Hong Kong and Beijing offices, Yin brings significant experience in global cross border transactions, complex public and private mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital investments, and other corporate matters. Previously Yin was a partner and head of corporate practice in Beijing at Cooley.
