Two Duke Law faculty help with Obama transition

Nov. 25, 2008 — Professors Christopher Schroeder and Arti Rai are helping review government agencies for the Obama-Biden transition team.

Schroeder, the Charles S. Murphy Professor of Law and Public Policy Studies, is a member of the Justice and Civil Rights Team examining the operations of the Department of Justice. During the Clinton administration he served as a deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel in the Department of Justice, and as acting head of that office 1996-97. He is the co-director of Duke’s Program in Public Law and of counsel at O’Melveny & Myers in Washington, D.C.

Rai, the Elvin R. Latty Professor of Law, serves on the Science, Technology, Space, and Arts Team assigned to the Department of Commerce. An expert in patent law, law and the biopharmaceutical industry, and health care regulation, Rai’s current research, funded by the NIH, focuses on intellectual property issues raised by collaborative research and development in areas ranging from synthetic biology to drug development.
