School to Prison Pipeline

February 12, 2015 • 12:30 PM • Law School 4047

Come view "The School to Prison Pipeline," a short, yet moving documentary on the disturbing national civil liberties issue where children are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems. Many of these children have learning disabilities or histories of poverty, abuse or neglect, and would benefit from additional educational and counseling services. Instead, they are isolated, punished and pushed out. Children's Law Clinic faculty members Jane Wettach and Brenda Berlin will be on hand to share additional information about the pipeline and some personal experiences representing children caught up in it. Students will learn how they can get involved in work surrounding this issue. This event is part of the Discussion and Action Series on Wealth, Inequality and the Law. Co-sponsored by Duke Law Clinics and the office of Public Interest and Pro Bono. For more information, please contact Susanna Epling at susanna.epling@law.duke.edu.
