Judy Horowitz LLM Scholarship Fund
Judy Horowitz worked closely with four Deans to build a top-notch International Studies program at Duke Law. The Horowitz LLM Scholarship Fund was created to honor Horowitz, and provides a permanent source of funds for full and partial scholarships every year to a deserving student who will have a positive impact on their countries and regions.
Jennifer Maher LLM Scholarship Fund
This fund allows Duke Law to offer scholarships to outstanding LLM candidates. Each year, hundreds of qualified candidates apply for these scholarships to offset the cost of tuition. The need for donors continues to increase, so that Duke Law can continue to attract the most qualified and deserving students and maintain the reputation of the Duke LLM degree.

Niamat Barakzai LLM ’22, Recipient of the Jennifer Maher LLM Scholarship
Niamat Barakzai began his legal practice in Kabul, Afghanistan at one of the leading law firms in the region. Despite the rising threat from the Taliban, Niamat believed in the power of the law to improve the lives of people of Afghanistan, and in a span of few years, he was able to open his own practice and hire a team of local lawyers. Niamat understood that to take his legal practice to the next level, he would need the skills and expertise that only a top tier U.S. LLM program could provide. The Maher LLM Scholarship helped to make that possible, paving the way for him and his family to leave Afghanistan during the most recent political crisis, offering protection from threats faced due to his association with U.S. interests.
Rajeeta Bhandari LLM ’22, Recipient of the Judy Horowitz LLM Scholarship
Rajeeta Bhandari attended law school at Tribhuvan University in Nepal and spent two years at a prominent Nepalese law firm, representing clients in cases involving civil rights, domestic abuse, and free expression. At Duke Law, she was a staff editor on the Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law and a research assistant for the Wilson Center for Science & Justice. Following graduation, she hopes to expand her practice to provide legal and policy advice to Nepal's federal and local governments and continue helping people protect their rights, with a particular emphasis on civil, labor, and immigration rights, in the context of transitional justice.
Yedidya “Didi” Yeshurun LLM ’22, Recipient of the Moskovitz & Stern Scholarship
Didi Yeshurun began his legal practice in Israel, working for the Ministry of Justice at the Office of the Attorney General, the Ministry of Finance at the Housing Cabinet, and at Meitar, Israel’s leading international law firm. Prior to joining Duke Law School, he spent two years at the JSC, a leading Jerusalem-based think tank, directing a public policy program aimed at developing visionary future Israeli leaders. He plans to continue his studies by pursuing an SJD, focusing his research on the intersection of law, technology and society, with the ultimate goal of returning to Israel to teach and mentor young students.
