Fall 2018 Exam Schedule

In-Class Exams

Upper level exams begin on Thursday, December 6.  1L exams begin on Wednesday, December 5.  In-class exams are scheduled at 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM.  Check the exam schedule for your exam time.  Students are expected to be in the exam room beginning at 8:00 for 8:30 exams, and 1:00 for 1:30 exams.  Proctors will begin issuing instructions approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of the exam.

Room assignments for Tuesday through Friday exams will be posted by 3:00 PM the day before the exam.  For Monday exams, room assignments will be posted by 7:45 AM Monday morning.

In-class exams use Electronic Blue Book (EBB).  Information about exam software can be found at this link: https://law.duke.edu/actech/examinfo/EBBStudentInfo

If you encounter a problem with EBB prior to exams, please take your computer to the Help Desk in the Library.   The Help Desk will not install EBB on the morning of the exam.    Information about the Help Desk can be found at this link: https://law.duke.edu/actech/helpdesk/

The General Exam Instructions governing in-class exams can be found here:
https://law.duke.edu/sites/default/files/academics/general_exam_instructions_fall.pdf
Read the instructions fully prior to your exam day.

Qualified LLM students may be given extra time for certain exams.  All students who are qualified for extra time were notified by email of the qualification.  Not all professors permit extra time, regardless of the qualification.  The professor should announce to the class whether extra time is being permitted for his/her exam

Take-Home Exams

Take-Home Exam Instructions

Some take-home exams are offered on a single day, and others are floating exams available any day during the exam period.  Anyday take-home exams will be available beginning at 8:30 AM on December 8 or as otherwise specified by the instructor.  All of the take home exams are noted on the exam schedule.

PLEASE NOTE THAT TAKE-HOME EXAMS DO NOT USE EBB.  All take-home exams are done in Word.

Unless otherwise instructed, all take home exams will be returned electronically to examdeposit@law.duke.edu by the time given on the instructions.  Some professors ask that the questions be returned, some do not.  Please review your instructions to determine whether the return of the questions is necessary.  Exams are generally due by 5:00 PM, but refer to the specific instructions of each exam that you are taking.

Generally, extra time is not permitted for take-home exams.  If extra time is permitted, instructions will be provided about returning the exam after hours.

Exam Schedule Conflicts

Please review the exam schedule carefully to determine whether you have a potential conflict.  The rules governing exam conflicts can be found at this link: https://law.duke.edu/registrar/exam_conflicts/

If, after reviewing the rules, you believe you have an exam conflict, please submit an Exam Rescheduling form to the Registrar’s Office in Room 2027.  The form can be found at: https://law.duke.edu/curriculum/pdf/reschedexam.pdf

Requests to Reschedule an Exam are due by November 9, 2018.

Loaner Laptops

A small number of loaner laptops will be available for use for in-class exams to those students whose laptop became inoperable immediately prior to the exam.  These are made available on a first come, first served basis.   To reserve a laptop, please come to the Registrar’s Office after 7:55 AM for a morning exam, and after 12:45 PM for an afternoon exam.  Students may only use one laptop during an exam.

Accommodations

Students who qualify for exam accommodations should contact Dean Hutchison as soon as possible if they have not already done so.
