Treaty Collections for Other Countries
Locating non-U.S. bilateral treaties can be challenging. While most countries have some kind of publishing mechanism,
these sources can be difficult to locate (and are often not in English). Some countries publish treaties in a treaty series,
such as U.S.T., others publish in an official gazette.
- Compilations of treaties are often the best way to locate bilateral treaties, such as Investment Promotion
and Protection Treaties.
- Some countries post treaties on their websites, such as
Australia,
France,
and
Hong
Kong.
- World Treaty Index is the only index of bilateral treaties, but it ceased publication in 1980.
- International organizations may provide the texts of and/or information
on bilateral treaties in specific subject areas. For example, some bilateral
agreements may be available in U.N.T.S., and UNCTAD maintains a collection
of bilateral investment treaties.
