The course will examine the legal framework governing energy production and consumption in the United States, the major environmental issues associated with the nation's energy sectors, and policy approaches for balancing energy needs with environmental protection. There will be three modules. The first module will examine the scope of energy regulation at the federal and state levels, and how that scope has evolved over time. The second module will focus on specific energy resources, the environmental issues raised by each, and the legal framework for addressing those issues. The third module will examine current legislative efforts to address major energy and environment challenges.
