524.01 Health and Medical Research for Lawyers

This one-credit advanced research seminar will introduce students to specific sources and strategies for researching a variety of health and medical legal topics, including the right to health care, medical malpractice, care for the elderly and disabled, medical privacy laws, pharmaceutical and medical device regulations, and medical ethics and experimentation. We will cover key primary and secondary sources for health and medical law research: state and federal statutes, regulations and other administrative materials, state and federal case law, subject-specific secondary sources, medical research literature, and sources for current awareness in the health and medical fields. Grading will be based on class participation, short in-class or take- home exercises, and a final written project and brief presentation.
