Coleman Cowan

Attorney and Emmy award winning 60 Minutes producer Coleman Cowan leads the litigation section of James Scott Farrin. As a trial lawyer, Coleman litigates some of the more high stakes cases in the areas of personal injury, product liability, and complex litigation. He is also a Partner at the firm.

Coleman has participated as lead counsel litigating successful multi-million-dollar jury verdict cases throughout his legal career. He has been selected as one of North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” by Business North Carolina Magazine and named to North Carolina’s “Super Lawyers” list. Coleman has also developed legal courses for the North Carolina Bar Association and has spoken at various legal seminars. He serves on the Civil Rules Committee for the Middle District of North Carolina and is the Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Professional Vitality Committee.

In addition to his legal practice, Coleman has also been a documentary news producer. His stories have appeared on 60 Minutes, 60 Minutes Sports, and CBSN On Assignment. He is a recipient of Emmy, Gracie, Murrow, Peabody, and Polk awards for broadcast journalism, and has reported stories from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America. His print stories have appeared in BusinessWeek Magazine, The New York Times, the Columbia Journalism Review, the Albany Times-Union, and the Raleigh News & Observer.

Coleman received a J.D. with honors from Wake Forest University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review and won awards for Most Outstanding Advocate as well as Best Oralist. Coleman earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he received a master’s in journalism with honors from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism where he was a member of the inaugural class of Stabile Investigative Journalism fellows.

Coleman has competed in dozens of triathlons, marathons, and ultramarathons, including Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, The North Face Endurance Challenge Series 50-mile race, Badwater Cape Fear and multiple Ironman triathlons. He lives with his family in Raleigh, North Carolina.
