After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II Bueford Herbert completed an LL.B. at the University of Louisville in 1948. The following year he completed an LL.M. at Duke and joined the Duke Law faculty as an Assistant Professor. Herbert was also the Associate Editor of Law & Contemporary Problems.
In 1950 Herbert returned to the armed forces and joined the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. In 1968 he became a law professor again at the University of Tulsa. From 1972 to 1976 Herbert was a municipal judge for the City of Tulsa. He became a visiting professor at St. Mary’s University of San Antonio Law School in 1977. Herbert retired in 1980 and passed away on February 20, 2015.
