Mary Kathleen Price replaced Igor Kavass as the Law Librarian in 1975. Besides managing the library she taught the first-year class on legal research and writing. Price also often taught a section of Criminal Law as well as Oil and Gas Law. She served as Vice Chair of the Faculty Senate.
Price completed her B.A. at the University of Florida in 1963 and a master’s in library science in 1967 at Florida State. She earned a J.D. at the University of Illinois in 1973. While Price was a student at Illinois she also worked in their College of Law Library and the Graduate Library School. She was in general practice for a few years before joining the Duke Law faculty.
Price left Duke in 1980 to become the Director of the Law Library and Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota. She held that position until 1990 when she became the Law Librarian at the Library of Congress. In 1994 Price became the Director of the Law Library and Professor of Law at NYU. She returned to the University of Florida in 2004 as an Associate Dean of Library and Technology and the Clarence J. Teselle Professor of Law in the Levin College of Law. The university bestowed emeritus status on her in 2010.
