Marshall Spears was a Durham lawyer who joined the Duke Law faculty part-time in 1927. He along with Thaddeus Bryson and Bryan Bolich filled out the faculty after the retirement of Dean Samuel Mordecai. Spears taught evidence and was in charge of civil cases in the legal clinic.
Spears served as a superior court judge from 1935 to 1938. After his son, Marshall T. Spears, Jr., completed a JD in 1950, they formed their own law firm. Spears continued to be involved with the firm until his death in 1975.
