Historical Faculty

Lawrence Wallace was a member of the Duke Law faculty for seven years.  He taught courses on a variety of topics.  Wallace was also associate editor of the Journal of Legal Education for a year while at Duke.  In the fall of 1964 he was a visiting associate professor at UCLA.

Wallace completed an AB in 1952 at Syracuse University.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1955.  During his military service Wallace completed a master of public administration degree at Syracuse.  In 1959 he earned an LL.B. from Columbia and was editor-in-chief of the Columbia Law Review in 1958-1959.  After law school Wallace spent a year as a law clerk for Associate Justice Hugo L. Black.  

In 1968 Wallace accepted a position in the Solicitor General’s Office.  He became Deputy Solicitor General in 1970, a position he kept until his retirement in 2003.
