Historical Faculty

Stephen Wallenstein joined the Duke Law faculty in 1997 as a lecturer and the executive director of Duke’s Global Capital Markets Center.  The Center was founded by another Duke Law professor, Steven Schwarcz, and involves faculty from the School of Law, the Fuqua School of Business, and the Department of History.  In 2002 Wallenstein became Professor of the Practice of Law, Business, and Finance.  That year he also founded and became program director of the Duke Directors’ Education Institute, a conference on corporate governance sponsored by the Global Capital Markets Center.

Wallenstein completed a BA at Cornell in 1969, a MA at Harvard in 1970, and a JD at Yale in 1974.  He became an associate at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, & Hamilton and worked at their locations in New York and Rio de Janeiro.  From 1980 to 1995 Wallenstein worked at the International Finance Corporation in Washington, D.C.  He taught at American University and the University of Denver before coming to Duke.

In 2009 Wallenstein became a member of the faculty at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
