CLASS OF 2026
Home Country: Costa Rica
Prior Education: University of Costa Rica Law School '17 (Bachelor and Licentiate in Laws); Lead University '21 (Master of Corporate Law)
Prior Work Experience: West Monroe (San Jose), Senior Legal Counsel
I decided to pursue an LLM degree because I wanted to gain knowledge of U.S. laws and policies, expand my international perspective, and develop new skills that will help me grow as a professional.
Why did you choose Duke Law School?
Attending Duke Law for an LLM has been a dream since I was a boy. Duke Law is one of the top law schools in the U.S. and it has a wide range of coursework with an outstanding faculty. Its welcoming and supportive community was also very appealing to me.
Are there student groups or other activities you’d like to get involved with?
I would love to volunteer for pro bono work. It is a great opportunity to learn and gain practical experience while giving back to the community. I am also interested in collaborating with Duke Intellectual Property Law Society, given my interest in this area.
How do you plan to use your LLM degree after graduation?
I plan to return to Costa Rica and apply the lessons learned at Duke to advance my career and contribute to the development of my country’s legal system.
What do you do to relax outside of work or class?
I enjoy playing tennis, doing CrossFit, and horseback riding.
Meet more of our LLM students who make this a great community.
At Duke Law, you'll join a community of peers from different geographic regions, cultures, professional paths, and interests.
The Career & Professional Development Center is committed to helping LLM students acquire the professional tools and skills that will serve them well in the United States or abroad.
