The Law School offers an array of events to celebrate your achievement.

Registration and payment (where applicable) for all events must be completed online

    Family Barbecue

    Friday, May 12 | 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
    Don’t miss your last chance to indulge in a traditional North Carolina BBQ (vegetarian option also provided). Bring your entire family.

    • Who’s invited: All graduating students and guests. If you plan to attend the Candlelight Dinner, do not register for the BBQ as they are scheduled at the same time.
    • Cost: $25 per person, free for children under the age of 5
    • Dress: Casual
    • Location: The Cookery, 1101 W Chapel Hill St, Durham, NC 27701

    Complimentary Valet Parking: Feel free to tip.

    Street pay parking and public pay garages are located in the vicinity but we suggest guests take advantage of the complimentary valet parking service offered.

     

    Candlelight Dinner

    Friday, May 12  |  6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
    This event proves to be one of the most special of the year, as the families and friends of international students travel from around the world to share in graduation.

    • Who’s invited: International students and guests
    • Cost: Free for graduating International student. There will be a $25 charge per guest, free for children under the age of 5
    • Dress: Business casual to semi-formal
    • Location: Law School, Star Commons
    • Parking: Law School Lot

    Law School Convocation

    Saturday, May 13
    4:45 p.m. Student Line-Up. All students MUST report to the Towerview side of Cameron Indoor Stadium at 4:45 p.m. to line up in alphabetical order.
    5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Ceremony. Doors to Cameron will not open for family members until 5:00 p.m.

    • Who’s invited: All graduating students and guests
    • Cost: Free to all, no tickets required
    • Dress: Regalia
    • Location: Cameron Indoor Stadium

    Directions/Parking:

    • Students will not be allowed to park in the Law Lot. This lot will be reserved for faculty and staff.
    • All graduating students and guests will be directed to the Science Drive Garage.   
    • Please plan extra time to walk from the Science Drive Garage to Cameron. A shuttle will be available to take guests and graduates from the Science Drive Garage to Cameron.
    • Students must arrive to check in at Cameron no later than 4:45 p.m.
    • Guests seating will open at 5:00 p.m.

    Handicap Access:

    • ADA parking for guests with mobility impairments will be at Whitford Lot or Science Drive Visitors Lot. Golf carts will be available to transport guests to the entrance of Cameron.
    • Passengers may be dropped off at the Whitford entrance to Cameron, if needed, and then the driver may proceed to the designated parking area.
    • Handicap seating will be available on the ground level of Cameron. Staff will be available to assist.

    Special Deadlines:

    • If you will not be attending the Law School Convocation, you must let the Office of Student Affairs know by Monday, April 3, 2023.

    Student line-up for University Commencement

    Sunday, May 14
    7:30 a.m. - Refreshments
    8:15 a.m. sharp - Student line-up leaves Law School

    • Who’s invited: All graduating students and guests
    • Cost: Free to all, no tickets required
    • Dress: Business; bring Regalia with you! (Bring an umbrella if rain is in the forecast.)
    • Location: Law School, Star Commons
    • Parking: Students can use their IDs to enter the Law School lot.

    University Commencement

    Sunday, May 14
    9:00 a.m. – Procession of all degree candidates into the Wallace Wade Stadium
    9:30 a.m. – Ceremony begins

    The graduation ceremony is for the entire University; the event will feature a keynote speaker, student speakers and conferral of degrees by President Vincent E. Price. You have not officially graduated until this ceremony is complete.

    • Cost: Free to all, no tickets required
    • Dress: Regalia
    • Location: Wallace Wade Stadium
