Book Talk - Biblical Judgments: David F. Levi in conversation with Justice Daphne Barak-Erez
March 26, 2024 • 12:30 PM • Law School 3037
The Duke community (Duke ID required) is invited to join David F. Levi, James B. Duke and Benjamin N. Duke Dean Emeritus of Law, will interview Daphne Barak-Erez, a justice of the Supreme Court of Israel, about her new book, Biblical Judgments, New Legal Readings in the Hebrew Bible.
The book considers today's dilemmas of law and government, social justice, and human rights through the perspective of the Hebrew Bible. By focusing on biblical narratives and literature rather than on traditional interpretations of biblical law, Justice Barak-Erez looks beyond specific legal norms to concentrate on what the stories can reveal about the "big" issues. The conversation is presented as part of Professor Levi's podcast, Judgment Calls, which features interviews with judges about their careers and judicial decision-making. RSVP required: https://duke.is/4/jey7. Justice Barak-Erez's visit is sponsored by the Duke Center for Jewish Studies. Lunch sponsored by the Bolch Judicial Institute.
