Financial services have been dramatically impacted by the deep technology revolution and the U.S.' regulatory apparatus appears ill-equipped to incorporate innovation that challenges the traditional definition of what it means to be a bank. Recently, the OCC established a new fintech bank charter, but other regulatory agencies have remained largely silent on the topic. Last year, Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-NC), introduced a bill designed to remove the many impediments faced by innovators in the financial services industry. Congressman McHenry serves as Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and as the Chief Deputy Whip in the 114th Congress. Throughout his congressional career, he has been an active promoter of increasing consumer and business access to financial services.
