Discussion with UN-OCHA Senior Legal Advisor Natalie Weizmann

Prof. Mara Revkin (Duke Law) and Prof. Erika Weinthal (Nicholas School) will lead a discussion with Nathalie Weizmann, Senior Legal Officer with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, where her work focuses on International Humanitarian Law as it relates to the protection of civilians and humanitarian activities. Before joining the U.N., she was Senior Director of the Counterterrorism and Human Rights Project at Columbia Law School's Human Rights Institute, carrying out research and writing on legal and policy issues relating to U.S. national security, IHL and international human rights law. Earlier, she was a legal adviser with the International Committee of the Red Cross, both at Geneva headquarters and in the field, examining issues ranging from judicial guarantees and procedural safeguards of persons deprived of their liberty, to autonomous weapons and responsible arms transfers, and representing the ICRC in Arms Trade Treaty negotiations.
