Energy Access Speaker: Tobias Schmidt

October 31, 2016 • 4:00 PM • Sanford 05

Across the world, developing country governments are seeking to rapidly scale-up investment in renewable energy. The financial sums required to achieve this are enormous. Private sector financing, backed by international capital markets, will be key to meeting this investment challenge. However, renewable energy developers often struggle to access the large quantities of financing they require and when available, the cost of financing is often high. Dr. Schmidt will discuss how developing country governments and international institutions can cost-effectively reduce risks and catalyze private investment, with examples drawn from large-scale wind projects and off-grid electrification.
