GPI Up Close: Careers in Impact Litigation
April 06, 2023 • 12:30 PM • Law School 4042
Impact Litigation is born out of legal advocacy, social justice work, and political movements. But it's not just a strategy that has led to major developments in racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and environmental justice. It's a robust and challenging career path for aspiring public interest lawyers. Hear from former Skadden Fellow and current Co-Director of Forward Justice, Caitlin Swain, who's work with the Advancement Project led to a successful challenge to discriminatory voting legislation in North Carolina NAACP v. McCrory. Our additional panelists work at ACLU of NC, the Southern Environmental Law Center, and NC Justice Center. Their experiences span from immigration and education, to police misconduct and death row litigation. Panelists will also share about their formational law school experiences that led them to a career in impact litigation - including work with the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum, the Children's Law Clinic, and Innocence Project. Co-sponsored by DBA, ACS, NLG, and NC Club. For more information, please contact Emma Kilroy at Emma.kilroy@duke.edu.
