Movie Night: Silver Dollar Road

November 15, 2023 • 6:00 PM • Law School 3037

The use of the legal system to dispossess Black families of their land is an ugly, painful and far too common feature of the American experience. Since the start of the 1900s, for example, at least 90% of land once owned by Black farmers has been lost through legal mechanisms such as the partition of heir's property. This is not just a historical pattern, however, but one that continues today. Join us for a screening of the new documentary, Silver Dollar Road. As described by the New York Times, the film is "an intimate documentary [that] focuses on one family's recent battle to keep their home in North Carolina. RSVP by November 13 here: https://duke.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5mXAsbdY0bfTrRY.
