Taboo Trades and the Case of Kidney Exchange
November 02, 2017 • 12:30 PM • Law School 3043
What is the cost of a kidney? Please join the Health Law Society for a talk on "taboo trades" given by Duke Law Professor Kimberly Krawiec. Taboo trades, exchanges that are either contested or outright forbidden by society, include topics ranging from sex work, to offspring, to blood. Professor Krawiec will be discussing the market for transplantable organs, and how markets for kidneys use non-financial incentives, such as kidney swaps, NEAD chains, and priority systems, to navigate the murky repugnance of a taboo trade. Lunch will be provided. Sponsored by the Health Law Society, Duke Science & Society and DBA. For more information, please contact Kelly Todd at kelly.a.todd@duke.edu.
