The Words That Made Us: America's Constitutional Conversation with Professor Akhil Amar

February 09, 2023 • 12:30 PM • Law School 4047

When the US Constitution won popular approval in 1788, it was the culmination of thirty years of passionate argument over the nature of government. But ratification hardly ended the conversation. For the next half century, ordinary Americans and statesmen alike continued to wrestle with weighty questions in the halls of government and in the pages of newspapers. To discuss this important history, join us for a conversation with one of America's top legal scholars, Professor Akhil Amar of Yale Law School. Professor Amar will detail the history of our constitutional conversation and discuss how it can provide lessons for contemporary debates about the text's meaning. Lunch will be provided. Sponsored by the Federalist Society. For more information, please contact Thomas Fogarty at tmf33@duke.edu.
