Wrongful Convictions Day: Beyond Innocence: The Life Sentence of Darryl Hunt
October 03, 2022 • 12:30 PM • Law School 3041
Join the Duke Law Innocence Project and Wake Forest University Professor Phoebe Zerwick for a conversation about her new book, Beyond Innocence: The Life Sentence of Darryl Hunt. Duke Law Professor Jamie Lau, the Deputy Director of the Center for Criminal Justice and Professional Responsibility and Supervising Attorney of the Wrongful Convictions Clinic, will interview Professor Zerwick. The two will discuss the conditions that produce wrongful convictions and the lengths that individuals, community members, attorneys, journalists, and others must go to prove innocence and achieve justice. Professor Zerwick's journalism was crucial to the exoneration of Darryl Hunt. Professor Lau's legal career has primarily focused on the investigation of post-conviction claims of innocence and, most recently, representing incarcerated people asserting claims of innocence in state and federal court, which will inform his interview of Professor Zerwick. Lunch will be provided. If you cannot attend in person, you can register for the livestream here: http://bit.ly/WCDLivestream2022. Sponsored by the Duke Law Innocence Project.
