The Year of the Woman, Part II

The 2018 midterm election is being acknowledged as The Year of the Woman, Part II; a reference to the 1992 election that saw women running in record numbers following Justice Thomas' Supreme Court confirmation. But 1992, which resulted in four female senators heading to D.C., has nothing on 2018. The midterm elections saw a 75% increase in women of color Congressional nominees since 2012, sustained by over 400 Black women who ran for office at every level, and a record number of Native American women candidates, among others. WLSA invites you to take a moment to celebrate the record-breaking number of women elected to Congress (over 100!) with candy, an Instagram photo-op (follow @dukelawwlsa), and a brainstorming session about how to keep the momentum going and improve election results in 2020. Stop by Star Commons from 12:30-2:00. Sponsored by WLSA. For more information please contact Sam Abrams-Widdicombe at asa57@duke.edu.
