The Honorable J. Harvie Wilkinson III to deliver commencement address

The Honorable J. Harvie Wilkinson IIIDuke Law School will celebrate the class of 2005 on May 14, with the awarding of JD and LLM degrees, and one MLS degree, at its annual hooding ceremony in Cameron Indoor Stadium on the Duke University Campus.

In addition to remarks by Dean Katharine T. Bartlett, Thomas McCudden will speak on behalf of the graduating JD class, and Mangyo Kinoshita will speak on behalf of his fellow LLMs. The Honorable J. Harvie Wilkinson III, former chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, will deliver the commencement address.

“It is a great honor this year that Judge Wilkinson has agreed to speak to our graduates and their families,” said Dean Bartlett. “Judge Wilkinson is widely regarded as one of the most respected federal judges in the country. He is also an excellent speaker, and I expect that he will have some wise words for our graduating class.”

Graduation festivities will begin Thursday, May 12 th with the Graduation Gala at Durham ’s American Tobacco Campus, at which time the winners of the annual Justin Miller Awards in citizenship, integrity, intellectual curiosity, and leadership will be announced. Fellow students nominate their graduating classmates for the awards, which emphasize the Law School ’s commitment to furthering these values in its students and in the legal profession. Friday’s events include a “Bluegrass Barbeque” for graduating students and their families and a dinner for international students.
